How it Started: Shiny Clean
On a sunny day in Ithaca NY, Thea and Indie were having a play date. They were six at that time. They couldn't find anything to do.
"What do you want to do?" Thea asked.
"I dunno, what do you want to do?" Indie responded.
"I dunno, what do you want to do?" Thea promptly replied.
Okay, you get the gist.
They walked inside to pester Indies mom. She suggested cleaning the metal porch railing with toothbrushes. While scrubbing away, Indie said "This is fun!". Thea replied "I know! We should do this more often!" One of them said "How come we like cleaning so much and we don't have our own business?". They decided to have a business and give all the money they made to charity! They lived happily ever after, and this day they are now 12 and have donated over $1,000 to charity.

How it Started: Our Friendship
Indie's first memory was meeting Thea. She almost worshiped Thea and really wanted to be her friend, but no! It would not be so (yet!). Thea was way to busy chasing after "those boys" that she did not notice her little shadow. One day they were sitting at a table painting in pre-k. Indie started to copy Thea. "Pass the blue" Thea said. "Pass the blue" Indie said. "Stop copying me!" Thea said. "Stop copying me!" Indie said. "Copycat!" said Thea. "Copycat!" said Indie. Thea raised her hand, daring Indie to continue. Indie raised her hand. The teacher came over. "Indie's copying me." said Thea. "Indie's copying me" Said Indie. "Go sit in the corner, Indie!" said the teacher. After the summer they ended up at the same kindergarten and found out they were neighbors. (TO BE CONTINUED AT A LATER DATE)
How it started: The Bell
We spent multiple hours and had to employ parents to shine a bell from a Quaker friend to shiny clean perfection. It has since become our logo. (see bell picture)
How it started: Our Mascot
One day Thea and Indie were having a play date and working on a Shiny Clean paint job. Thea went upstairs to change. As she was changing, she noticed a man looking through her front gate. After coming downstairs, Thea and Indie went to investigate. The man said he had found this dog and that he was moving so he could not take care of it. He was from apartment 15. We jumped at the opportunity and declared ourselves responsible. We paraded her around and rang doorbells, to no avail. Indie was preparing herself for a new pet, while Thea wisely noted the dog did not belong to us, and it's owner was just around the corner most likely. We gave her a name, Nana (because she was old) Montana (like the singer) Stratburg (our last names combined. Two hours later, Thea was brushing the sweet old pup when she heard something like "Kaina! Kaina!" Thinking that this was a threat to her ownership, Thea unwisely hid her inside, away from the screaming man. Indie wisely suggested they find this man.
After finding him not even a block away, they sadly relinquished the rope leash. It turns out, he was from apartment 15 as well! When the man had left and Kaina (that was her real name) was gone, we climbed to the treehouse and declared Nana Montana Stratberg our mascot. |
